My favorite ladder rack is the Thule Xsporter Pro # TH500XTB. This ladder rack has the option to adjust the height which can be convienent for either having your kayak above the cab of your 2008 Dodge Dakota or off the back end of your truck.
There are a lot of other options when it comes to how to carry Kayaks on the ladder rack. My favorite way is channel mounting the Thule DockGlide # TH896. It involves a super easy rear loading style so you don't have to mess with the awkward installation of a j-style carrier.
