Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2017 Ram 2500 and Grand Design 295RL 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2017 RAM 2500 cummins and a Grand Design 295RL 5th wheel. Using a Blue Ox BXR7200 hitch. Ive found out that the king pin on the 5th wheel Turning point cannot be replaced with anything therefore in order to reduce chucking I think my only options are in the suspension on the 5th wheel and/or the truck. During a recent long trip I had more cargo in the bed of the truck than normal and I did notice a bit more sagging and porpoising than normal. I feel that an air bag lift may help with the sag and hopefully some of the chucking and porpoising. Other than replacing the hitch, with something like a Hensley Trailer saver, is there any other recommendations for the 5th wheel and truck? thanks,

For your 2017 Ram 2500 the air suspension may help a bit with the chucking you are experiencing when towing your Grand Design 295RL 5th wheel trailer as well as porpoising. Because you already have a hitch that has integrated cushioning, the air springs may actually create more of an issue as the air springs complete with the 4 Integrated bands inside your current hitch. Instead of the # F2580 you asked from, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-312-54 because it will help with load support, it will help with body roll and porpoising, but it won't compete with your trailer hitch shock absorption.

If you want the shock absorbing and adjustability of the Ride Rite # F2580, then I recommend replacing your 5th wheel hitch with a Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 which will work well with your Turning Point pin box.
