Where Will Rails of Demco DM6140 5th Wheel-Gooseneck Adapter Sit in Bed of 2005 Ram 2500 Short Bed
Question:
I have an 05 Dodge 2500 short box. I have a Curt 5th wheel hitch and rails installed with many trouble free miles. I wanted to install the BandW GN hitch and the Demco base rail adapter but if my measurements are correct this would set my hitch 7-8 inches farther forward. the GN hitch would sit 45.5inch in from back of bed and the back of the plate would be another 13inch forward. based on the measurements you have here on your site. this puts the front of the plate into my tool boxes and also limits my turning radius. am I looking at this correct, if so I guess I will have to continue to live with the rails I have.

The B&W # BWGNRK1313 Turnover Ball would install so that the center of the ball socket will sit 45-1/2 inches forward of the rearmost edge of the bed.
The Demco # DM6140 is right at 28 inches from the front edge of the front rail to the rear edge of the rear rail. The pin that installs into the Turnover ball is equally distant beetween the two rails, so the front edge of the front rail will sit about 14 inches forward of the center line of the pin that installs in the Turnover Ball as shown in the provided photo.
When a 5th wheel hitch is installed in the # DM6140, the king pin will typically sit right over the pin that installs into the Turnover Ball.
