Recommended Bike Rack for GenZe E-Bikes Compatible with 2009 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I am looking for bike rack for 2 genze ebikes 50 lbs each that can fit on a 2009 rav4 that has a spare tire mounted on the back. I would love to mount directly to the spare tire, but I dont believe there are any spare tire mounts with such a large capacity, so I anticipate mounting to a 2inch hitch. The Rav4 hatch opens from the side and so ideally the bike rack would fold down so that the door could still be used.

I have a solution for you, and you're correct that there would not be a spare tire mounted rack that would allow you to carry heavy e-bikes like your GenZe's. Additionally, because the hatch on your 2009 Toyota RAV4 swings open from the side, you won't be able to just use a typical tilting platform rack to carry your bikes.

With all of that said, you'll need to start by using the Yakima Back Swing # Y02483, which will allow you to remove the bike rack away from the rear of the vehicle and allow you to access the rear cargo area. To carry the bikes, I recommend using the Hollywood Racks SportRider SE # HLY84FR which is designed to carry heavy e-bikes and is a platform design that allows you a rack that is easy to load your bikes onto. This would be the best setup for use with your swing away cargo hatch on the 2009 RAV4.
