According to Draw-Tite the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Hitch, # 9465-40, will fit on your 1998 Chevrolet 1500 with the 6-1/2 ft bed as long as it does not have a stepside or flareside bed. We do not have a gooseneck trailer hitch for models with a stepside or flareside bed.

Since you have a short bed, you may be interested in a gooseneck hitch ball with a 5 inch offset like part # 19308. This will move the pivot point of your trailer 5 inches further back creating more clearance between your trailer and truck cab when making sharp turns.
