The first thing you will want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual to determine how the vehicle should be towed and if any additional equipment or special procedures are required.

There are 5 items you will need to flat tow a vehicle. First you will need base plates. There are several options for a 2011 jeep Wrangler depending on the bumper you have. I have included a link to them for you.

The next item you will need is a tow bar. If you go with Roadmaster base plates, the most popular options is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. I have included links to the instructions and a video review for you. If you go with Blue Ox base plates, the compatible tow bars will be listed on the product page.

Next you will need safety cables like # RM-643. The coiled design keeps the cables off of the ground. Some tow bars come with cables and you may not need to add them. Other tow bars have safety cable channels and require straight cables like # RM-645. The product pages for the tow bars will say if the tow bar comes with cables or if it has channels that require straight cables.

The next part is lighting. I recommend the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, because it does not require cutting into the vehicle wiring.

The last item you will need is supplemental braking. Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you. You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if you can flat tow this vehicle and on the proper procedure for flat towing.
