Weight Distribution Compatibility with a 2005 Nissan Murano Class III Trailer Hitch

Question:

I have a 2005 Nissan Murano and i was wondering if you can use or even need a weight distributing hitch on it? I have read some forums saying that your not supposed to use the WDH as the Murano has a unibody desighn. I have a class III hitch and would be towing a travel trailer that would be 2740 lbs dry weight and 250 lbs tongue weight. Any recomendations would be great.

If your 2005 Nissan Murano came with a factory installed Class III trailer hitch, then your owners manual should tell you if a weight distribution system can be used or not. I can tell you that a weight distribution system cannot be used with any of the Class III trailer hitches that we offer for your vehicle.

Your travel trailer is fairly light, but if your vehicle sags a lot when towing your trailer, then you could look into the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs, # F4118. These springs will assist your rear suspension and reduce sag when towing your trailer. These air bags adjust manually and include all materials necessary for installation.

If you are concerned about trailer sway when on the highway, then you could use a ball mount with a sway control bracket like the Curt Ball Mount, # D320, and the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, # 83660. Keep in mind that this sway control bar will not work with surge brakes and must be disconnected when backing up or driving in rain or snow. I have attached a video and installation instructions for the sway control kit for you to check out as well.
