Cable Maintenance on my Thule OutWay Three Bike Rack

Question:

I have a Thule TH56BV - Outway - 3 Bike Rack. In the winter I store the rack inside but during the spring and summer it’s on the back of my car in the elements. Should I be doing anything to the cables so they don’t seize up? I’m concerned they make get stuck/locked up and I wouldn’t be able to roll/unroll them.

Helpful Expert Reply:

While the Thule OutWay 3-Bike Rack part # TH56BV is one of the nicest bike racks on the market to mount to a trunk. With that said they do not recommend leaving the rack on during non use periods. I also understand this is not always followed. Check out the information I was able to find on care and maintenance below.

1. Remove your Thule rack and accessories when they are not in use and
before entering automatic car washes.

2. Locks must be turned and moved periodically to ensure smooth
operation. Use graphite or dry lubricant to help this. Thule locks are
designed to deter vandalism and theft but should not be considered
theft proof. Remove valuable gear if your vehicle is unattended for an
extended period. Place at least one key in the glove compartment.

Hope this helps in you getting the most out of your rack!
