Recommended Solution for Light Boat on Trailer with 1000-lbs Leaf Springs to Help Fight Bounce

Question:

Advise if using a softer leaf spring current springs have 4 leafs and I think are each rated at 1000 lbs. is better for carrying a 700 lb. fishing boat all items of boat weight are included - motor, gas, batteries, gear. So Im loading my 1400 lb trailer with a 700 lb load = 50 of trailer capacity. Is this load to small to allow the springs to flex properly? Thanks

I'll start off by saying that the smallest leaf spring capacity we offer is going to be for a 1000-lbs axle (500-lbs each spring) like the # SP-178275, and the lighter weight of the boat probably has something to do with the reason you're getting so much bounce on the trailer. I'll also say that these are slipper springs, so you would need to verify that you've got slipper springs on your trailer to ensure the correct fit.

Once you determine the correct style of spring, in order to choose the correct capacity springs you'll need to measure your old ones, and then choose the closest match that are the same capacity as the ones you're using.

With that said, since those would be the smallest capacity springs we offer and if you're mostly concerned about damaging the motor, you may want to consider adding a transom saver like the # 315-FXH. This transom saver will help protect your transom, motor, and steering components from shock and vibrations while you tow your boat
