what is the hook material? what is the thickness of the hooks? i need to use this to keep a metal fence closed and do not want it to scratch the paint.

The Master Lock EZ Grip Bungee Cord w/ Steel I-Beam Hooks - 24" Long # 3030DAT has hooks that are flat steel hooks. The hook opening is 7/8 inches wide and the hooks are 3 times stronger than the traditional wire hooks with a thickness around 1/8 inch at the hook.end. The placement of the hooks and the tension behind them will determine the paint remaining on your metal fence. Some fabric or foam may be a good idea to protect your surfaces if you will be using a lot of tension where the hooks meet.
