Wiring the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller to the Factory Harness on a 2004 Ford F-250

Question:

I have a 2004 f250 and i wired my draw tite activator 5504 into the factory plug under the dash and powered the unit to the battery per the instructions. The light on the unit stays on when the brake is off and there is constant power to the blue brake control wire by the hitch also factory installed. When i hit the brake pedal the light doesnt change and stays on. On the factory plug under the dash there is a green wire which isnt conected to the brake controller however fords instructions are to connect the green wire to the brake controler. since there isnt a green wire on the control, then where do i conect? Will this solve my problem of constant power/the light staying on or is the controller bad. If i disconect the black wire from the battery, the light goes out and the controller works manually. Any ideas on whats wrong?

On the Ford OEM wiring harness, if you DO NOT have a pink wire on the harness, the wiring functions are as follows:

Red is 12 volt power and goes to brake controller black
Light green is input from the stoplight circuit and goes to brake controller red wire
White is ground and goes to brake controller white
Dark blue is output to trailer brakes and goes to brake controller blue
Brown is not used

If the harness does have a pink wire it will connect as follows:

Pink is 12 volt power and connects to brake controller black
Red connects to Red
White connects to white
Blue connects to blue
Brown is not used

It does sound like it is just an issue of getting the controller wired to the factory harness correctly.
