Front Mounted Hitch and Cargo Carrier Compatible with 2000 Ford Explorer

Question:

Hey guys, I have a 2000 explorer and am looking to put a hitch carrier on the front. I have been looking at the Curt item #C31051 but it hangs lower than is acceptable for my needs. My thought is to mount a front hitch for an 02-04 explorer and I have been looking at item #31540. Drilling holes/cutting the bumper is not an issue, my only concern is with the width and if it will still line up between the frame rails. Is there any blueprint or measurement that could be done for these two bumpers? Thank you very much!

For your 2000 Ford Explorer the CURT Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # C31051 is the only fit. I don't recommend using the # 31540 as it isn't a direct fit so the tongue weight rating and everything else will be altered even if you can "make it fit". It will not fit the frame as there was a new generation with different frame chassis introduced in 2002.

The best I can offer is the # C31051 and then use a cargo carrier with a raised shank like the 23x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # C18151 for example. This will give you an extra 2 inches rise at the carrier.
