What To Do With Surge Coupler When Switching to Electric Actuator

Question:

Hello, I am thinking about installing your Hydrastar kit on my boat trailer, I watched the very good video and it seems to cover everything, but i do have a question about the existing surge unit, After diconnecting the hydraulic lie from it what more needs to be done? Plug the hole? What about the surge actuator? disable it? how? Also, I have a 2019 Ford f250 with the 7 pin plug factory installed so it should be no problem with the plug included in the kit? What about a matching controller for that truck? Anything mote I should think about Will some tec. assistance be available in case I run into a problem with the install? Thank you,

The HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HS381-9067 is an excellent all inclusive option and what I recommend using. Once you switch over you'll need to lockout your existing coupler or if this cannot be done weld it up or just replace it. Basically, you just need to stop the action, some can be locked out with a bolt but others would require welding or replacing it entirely if you don't have a welder or know someone who can.

In regards to brake controllers, these actuators are rather picky so if you have a factory brake controller it may work but a much better option would be to just use the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 since it works as a bypass.

I have installed a few of these kits myself so if you run into any issues, I can help you fix them in no time.
