Is Weight Distribution With Sway Control Recommended for 2013 Toyota Tundra With Tow Package

Question:

Hi there. Just bought a 2013 Toyota Tundra Crewmax 2WD 5.7L Engine with the Factory Installed Tow Package its the Short Bed. How important is tongue weight? And would a Weight Distribution and Anti-Sway bar allow me more tongue weight? Thanks. I think the Tongue weight rating is 1,000 lbs. Camping Trailer I am looking at has a tongue weight rating of 1130 pounds. Thanks

Remaining under the recommended tongue weight is very important; not doing so is dangerous. Going over the tongue weight capacity can make your tow vehicle difficult to control because of the force at the rear of your truck. It will be difficult to turn and will have poor braking, so you definitely need to stay under the tongue weight capacity and make sure it is between 10% and 15% of your trailer's loaded weight. To ensure this I recommend the a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044.

As for tongue weight capacity, the owner's manual I found online for your 2013 Toyota Tundra did have a 1,000 lb capacity, and that cannot be changed. It also said that it is required to have a sway control device if you are towing over 2,000 lbs and it is required to have a weight distribution system if you are towing over 5,000 lbs.

So I highly recommend adding a weight distribution system with sway control, depending on your total tongue weight (TTW) - the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

For a TTW of between 500 lbs - 700 lbs the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800 or for a TTW between 700 lbs - 900 lbs the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-1000.

I've added links to video reviews and help articles for you to check out as well.
