Malfunctioning 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2003 Chevy Silverado

Question:

Added brake controller with wiring adapter red wire next to blue to 2003 Silverado 1500 w/ factory 7way tow pkg after buying RV trailer. HAd only towed 4way trailers using 7way to 4way adapter ed into 7way connector BEFORE adding controller but now have NO 4way trailer lights and something draws down battery on truck when 4way trailer is plugged into 7way VIA the adapter. Do I need to now need to add a seperate 4way plug to factory 7way and if so which one?

I would start by examining your 7-way for corrosion or damage. If you can see any white or green corrosion on the pins, there is a good chance that the corrosion has spread to the interior where the vehicle wiring connects to the terminals of the 7-way. This could be causing the battery drain you are experiencing.

If you find damage or corrosion, your best bet would be to replace the connector. If you were to replace the connector with part # HM40975 which has a 7-way and a 4-pole connector, you would not need to fool with an adapter.
