Recommended Drop or Rise Tolerance

Question:

Hitch height is 20.5, Coupler height is 22.5. Trailer is a pop-up camper that weight less than 3000 lbs loaded. Tongue weight is around 250 lbs. Towing vehicle is a 2020 Ford Raptor. Should I get a ball mount with a 2 rise or 1 rise? The math says 2 rise, but I like to error on the side of caution. Just wanted to get an expert opinion.

Good Question! It is okay to have a little plus or minus you just don't want the tongue pointed too far either way. In your case I would use the 2" since we know it will have the trailer sitting dead level which is optimal. The Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2" Ball - 4" Drop - 2" Rise - 7,500 lbs part # C45056 will be perfect.

This helps to ensure that the trailer pushes and pulls flat on the truck rather than pushing up or pulling down when braking.

I found this Q&A searching for information on tolerances. I thought you would find it interesting that my Curt 4" drop ball mount measures only 3-1/2 inches. I hit them up on that and they replied that it is actually 3.55, so they rounded it up to 4. I was dumbfounded.
