Suspension Won't Settle After Installing the Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Kit
Question:
After installing Item # K71-359-00, the suspension wont return to normal ride height after jacking up one side, and releasing it. I have checked all hanger bolts, along with equalizer bolts, shackle bolts and everything is loose but tight. I have yet to grease all zerk fittings. Is it to normal for the suspension to be tight at first until the trailer is used and greased properly? I have all new springs, bushings, and of course suspension kit. All wet bolts. Thank you for the time.

This is a very common issue when installing the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers part # K71-359-00. What happens is that the shackle is likely flipped on one side. Typically what I do is hook it up and travel at about 5 mph and engage the brake controller if present. If no brake controller then place a short 4x4 in front of the tires and roll forward as they flex over it they will settle in.
This should be done after fully greasing the system.
