That tire size sounds about right for a 5th wheel weighing in at 15,500 lbs but there are a few things to check so that we know we aren't overloading our tires.

The easiest way to know we won't be overloading our tires is to make sure our tires are rated for at least the same amount of weight as our axle that they are mounted to. So for the ST235/80R16 tire we have a Load Range E (3,520 lbs at 80 psi) like part # TTWTRTM2358016E and a Load Range G (4,080 lbs at 110 psi) like part # PRG80235.

As long as the 15,500 lbs you mentioned is the GVWR and not the dry (unloaded) weight then you're good to go because for a tandem axle the E rated tires gives you a combined rating of 14,080 lbs and the G rated tires gives you a combined rating of 16,320 lbs. Since some of the 15,500 lbs you mentioned will be pin weight even the E tires are safe to use.

If the 15,500 lbs you mentioned is the unloaded weight then let me know and I can help you make sure that you get the best tires for your application.
