Recommended Platform Bike Rack For 2009 GMC Sierra With Long Shank for Maximum Clearance
Question:
The only video I saw on the e-trailer site for any kind or type of pick-up was the Dodge ram video. Im not convinced that the rack would work with my 09 sierra. After looking at the specs I am concerned with the 8 clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the inside wheel tray. I placed my bike as close as I could to the vehicle and 8 puts the handlebar against the back of the truck. Does the XTC-2 #S64670 model not work well with most pick-up trucks? Or am I missing something? Also in one video the demo shows a velcro style strap to secure the wheels, while another video and the picture on the website show rubber straps to secure the wheels. Which is it? I would appreciate any feedback or answers for these concerns that you could provide as I do like and am considering the rack.Thank-You.

The Swagman XTC2, # S64670 works great with many different types of vehicles, but not all of them. The XTC2 uses rubber straps to retain the wheels in the hoops.
It sounds like you need a rack with a longer shank. The Swagman XC, part # S64650 would be a good choice. The XC offers 10-1/2 inches between the hitch pin hole to the edge of the closest wheel hoop. The XC uses hook and loop straps to secure the wheels to the hoops. Hollywood Racks also offers a similar rack, part # HR200Z which offers 12-1/8 inches of clearance. The Hollywood Racks model also uses hook and loop straps to retain the wheels to the hoops.
Either one of these racks will offer you additional clearance over and above the 8 inches provided by the Swagman XTC2.
I have linked you to the racks I recommended, as well as a product demonstration video featuring the Swagman XC.
