On your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado the factory brake controller wiring harness does not attach to the brake controller wires color for color. It would wire as follows: the red wire on the factory harness connects to the black wire on the controller, the light blue wire on the harness connects to the red wire on the controller, the dark blue harness wire connects to the blue wire on the controller and the black wire on the harness attaches to the white wire on the controller. If your factory harness has a brown or orange wire, it is not used. This wire is for an illumination circuit that is not needed. This wire should be bundled up out of the way. I am including a link to a video of how to wire the factory brake controller wiring harness to a brake controller.
The Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller, part # 5504, will normally have four wires and a connector plug on the back of the controller. If that is what you have you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Adapter, part # 3015-P, instead of the factory brake controller wiring harness. This adapter will plug into the connector on the brake controller and the other end will plug into the factory brake controller port located in the electric junction box beneath your vehicles dash. It will not require anything to be hardwired. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the # 3015-P adapter.
