There are a couple different ways that you can wire your 1967 Chevy truck for a 7-way connector. The key is to make sure you have the correct circuits are running to the correct posts inside of the 7-way socket on your truck.
If you take apart your 7-way socket to expose the connection points for the wires, then, starting at the 1 o clock position and moving clockwise, they should be as follows, Tail and Running lights, Left Turn and Brake, Ground, Brake Output Wire, Right Turn and Brake, 12 V Battery Power and finally the center terminal is for the reverse light circuit. I have attached a photo that shows how the 7-way socket should be wired. It is important that you connect the wires by function rather than by color, because colors can be different from application to application. You can test each wire for function using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.
The tail lights, turn signals, brake signals and reverse light circuits should all be located at the tail light assemblies on your truck. The power wire should be ran to your trucks battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker, the brake output wire should run directly to the brake controller and the ground wire should be attached to a clean, bare metal surface. I have attached a brake controller FAQ article and a wiring article that should help while you are troubleshooting your issues.
You may also have a ground issue somewhere as well. Poor ground connections can cause a wide variety of issues. I recommend checking that the ground connections from the vehicle and trailer end 7-way connectors and all of the ground connections for your trailer lights are attached to a clean, bare metal surface.
If your issues persist after verifying that your connections are okay, then let me know what you come up with and we can take further troubleshooting steps.
