Tow Bar Parts Needed to Switch From Flat Towing a Land Rover To a VW Jetta With a Motor Home

Question:

Background: Ive been towing a 2000 LR Disco II for about 7 yrs behind my 2005 38foot Coachman diesel pusher without any issues. Im switching my toad to a 2005 VW Jetta TDI manual shift and will be purchasing your Roadmaster Brackets 521228-1. My question relates to the towbar connection bar that spans the two connection brackets mounted to the car. Is this a universal bar that I can just disconnect from my currect brackets on the Disco and connect to the VW EZ brackets. I think its a Blue Ox bar but, the ID is worn off. My towbar is a Roadmaster aluminum, I dont remember if its a Falcon or Blackhawk model. Its still in good condition as I regularly lube and clean it after use. If you need further info, Id have to go through my old records t see what model I purchased, back when.

The Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 521228-1, you have referenced, are the correct base plates for your 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Old Body.

If you have a Roadmaster tow bar like the Falcon or the Blackhawk you will be able to tow the Jetta if you have the Roadmaster Quick Disconnect Tow Bar Base Assembly, part # 910021-00. This is a support bar that will span between the tow bar arms and connect to the tow bar and includes a set of quick disconnects for both the motor home and the Jetta.

If you had Roadmaster base plates on your Land Rover then it should be the same support bar as mentioned above and will work with the EZ base plates on the Jetta.

If you had Blue Ox base plates on the Land Rover and was towing with a Roadmaster tow bar you would be using an adapter like the Roadmaster Tow Bar to Blue Ox Brackets Adapter, part # RM-031. This adapter would bolt to the Roadmaster tow bar and have the triple-lug end that would connect to the Blue Ox base plates. There would not be a support bar between the tow bar arms.

I am including links to FAQ pages on both the Roadmaster base plates and the Blue Ox base plates.
