Recommendation for a Transporting 3 Bikes and Towing a Pop-Up Camper
Question:
I need a three bike rack for my 2009 Chevy Suburban that I can use while also towing a pop up tent trailer. I will be transporting one adult bike and two childrens bikes. Will a trunk rack work for me? Thanks.

I believe the best possible solution for you would be to get a Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210. This ball mount is specifically designed to allow a trailer to be towed and a bike rack or cargo carrier be carried at the same time. The ball mount portion of this product has towing capacities of 750 lbs of tongue weight and 7,500 GTW, but the receiver portion is limited to 350 lbs tongue weight.
You will want to check the owners manual of your 2009 Chevy Suburban to determine the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle and be sure not to exceed this figure with the weight of your bikes, racks and pop-up camper.
For a hitch mounted 3 bike rack to go along with the # D210 I would recommend the Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Carrier # S63365. This rack tilts for access to the rear of your vehicle, has anti-sway cradles.
For your childrens bikes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Womens and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005. This product attaches to the seat post and steering stem of a bike to provide a level horizontal top tube to make transporting bikes easier. These also work well on childrens bikes where the frames are smaller and difficult to get on bike rack arms.
