Do the Lower Straps of the Thule Outway Go Under the Trunk Lid on 2007 Honda Civic LX 4 dr

Question:

I was doing fine with the instructions until it came time to install the lower hooks to the vehicle. I couldnt get them onto the bottom of the trunk hood without opening the trunk. Then, when I put the cables in place loosely so I could adjust the carrier from the top down, I couldnt shut the trunk. Rather, I set off the panic alarm and had a hard time shutting it off. I tried this twice and gave up. Im wondering if the bottom cables need to attach somewhere underneath the car near the rear bumper.

I checked with Thule and you need to install the lower hooks onto the lower edge of your trunk lid. Check out the video I attached. It is a different vehicle as yours but the installation process will be the same. Opening the trunk is required to get the lower cables in place. As thin as the hooks on the straps are they should not interfere with your trunk closing. You may want to check to make sure that just the hook is under the trunk lid.

To prevent your car alarm from going off you should be sure to unlock the doors of your vehicle before you begin the installation. This will disarm the alarm so that if you bump your car during installation the alarm should not go off.
