Hello, If the rated tongue weight for my truck is 400lbs, is it safe to buy a hitch that is rated for 750lb TW?

Expert Reply:

It is safe to use a hitch that is rated for 750 lbs as long as you do not exceed the 400 lb tongue weight rating for the truck. Hitches are designed to fit multiple styles of the same vehicle and sometimes other vehicles so they may have a higher weight rating then what you can actually tow with your vehicle.

It looks like you have a 2011 Nissan Frontier. I believe you are referring to the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit part # 75282 for the 2005 - 2020 Nissan Frontier. The Draw-Tite is rated for 750 lbs tongue weight, if your Nissan Frontier has a 400 lb tongue weight rating I cannot recommend to exceed that.
