What is the Correct Ball Mount for a 2003 Toyota RAV4 with a Class I Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
Question:
I just installed a Class I Sportsframe hitch #24704 on my 2003 Rav 4 unbelievably easy to install. The trailer I am buying has an 18inch coupling height and takes a 1 7/8inch ball. The hitch after installation is 16inch to the top of the receiver tube. Which draw bar/ball combination would you recommend for this set up?

On a Class I trailer hitch, you must use the ball mount recommended by the trailer hitch manufacturer or it will void the hitch warranty. this is because that specific hitch has been tested with and rated for use with a specific ball mount and has been determined to be the best option.
This information can be found near the bottom of the hitch instructions, linked for reference. They state that ball mount # 3593 is correct for this hitch and vehicle. The instructions all state that it must be used in the drop position only.
This ball mount has a 2-3/4 inch drop measured from the top of the shank down to the ball hole. With a 1-7/8 inch ball installed like # 19256, you will have a height to the top of the ball at about 16 inches. With the trailer coupled, it will pull down on the vehicle some and you will almost be level. With this set up you will be in good shape to tow the trailer as level as possible with the correct ball mount.
