Wiring Adapter for Charging a Trailer Battery with a 2008 Subaru Outback
Question:
I have a popup trailer with a round 6 pin wiring connection that is 6 flat slots around the edge and a center metal pin . All the wiring connections I see on the site for a Subaru are 4 pole. are all the connection standard? I am only looking to get power to the battery no breaks etc. Is it possible to get power to the battery from a 4 ping wiring harness?

Expert Reply:
Using the existing 4-way connector to power your battery is not possible, as each circuit on that connector will already be used for the trailer wiring. Your trailer has what we refer to as a 7-way trailer connector (6 slots plus the center pin). We offer an adapter, part number 37185 that will convert your existing 4 pin connector to the 7-way. These connections are standard, but to power the trailer battery, you will need to run a wire from the black lead on the adapter to the vehicle's positive battery terminal, using an inline 40 amp circuit breaker, part # 9510. When using the trailer connector to charge your battery, please read and follow any charging instructions included with your trailer battery. I will include a link to the needed parts which you can find below.
