Is a Brake Controller Needed for Trailer Brake Activation on a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500
Question:
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a towing package. I just bought a dual axel car trailer with brakes on both axles. Do I need to add the device in question or are the brakes working via the tow package? Thanks

You will need a brake controller to activate the brakes of your trailer. The tow package of your truck most likely includes a hitch, and a trailer connector. None of these components will activate the brakes of your trailer though.
If you have a factory 7-way connector all you will need is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Proportional Brake Controller # 90885 with Dodge Adapter # 3021-P. You will just plug the adapter into the port under your dash just to the right of the emergency brake pedal.
Check out the FAQ I attached on installing brake controllers in Dodge trucks like your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500.
