Tow Package Wiring on 2003 Chevy Silverado Not Carrying Brake Controller Output to 7-Way

Question:

I have installed a new brake control and used the Hopkins 47775 pigtail. I have voltage on the black wire with key on and voltage on red wire with brake pedal applied. I get voltage on the blue wire up to the breaker box connection under the dash with the pedal applied. I do not get anything at the bumper pigtail connection. Blue wire in C, Red wire in D. Black wire in E, White wire in F. Is there anything else to hook up. The truck came with factory installed trailer wiring.

It sounds like the connection between the brake controller and the 7-way trailer connector is not completed.

Although it sounds like you have the harness pinned out correctly, compare your plug pin-out to the diagram I produced for you.

Take a look at the FAQ page I have linked to, step 2, photo D and E. The blue wire shown might not be connected to the 7-way connector at the rear of the vehicle. You might need to attach a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) to that blue wire and run it under the vehicle to attach to the brake output terminal of the 7-way.

If you complete this step, and still do not get power output at the rear bumper with the manual brake switch on the controller activated, there is a problem in the output wire between the junction box under the dash and the wire under the hood. Sever the blue wire on your brake control harness a few inches behind the controller, and connect your wire that you ran back to the connector. This will bypass the factory output circuit and should solve your problem.
