Replacing 7-Way of Utility Trailer that Has Two Power Wires with RV Style Connector

Question:

Hoping you can help me with a question. I’ve got a 2008 Ford F450 dump truck that I had to replace the round seven pin female receptacle on the back plate near the hitch, with a more common, seven flat blade female connector to match up with my trailer that has electric brakes and could possibly have ABS on the truck, not sure about my trailer. It could also have ABS brakes. It is a 2018 H andH 16,000 pound tilt bed tandem axle trailer. I have a voltmeter and I shave figured out which wires are right, left and tail, but I have two other wires that have 12 V from one, only when the key is on and one that has 12 Volts at all times. The truck also has a brake controller mounted in the cab. I’m hoping to finish it up tomorrow, April 2nd in the a.m. I bought a Hopkins, part # 48425 for the replacement female connector. Welcome suggestions. Thanks,

It's not uncommon for a heavy duty trailer wiring setup to have two 12 volt accessory circuits. If you have a circuit that is hot all the time as well as a circuit that is powered only when the key is on you can decide which you'd rather have for your trailer wiring. You're on the right track testing everything to determine the function and then use the attached diagram for wiring up the new 7-way.
