Best Heavy Duty Frame Mount Trailer Hitch for a 1979 Chevrolet K2500
Question:
I have a1979 k25 that i will be pulling a 31’ toy hauler with and i need a hitch. I bought a thick steel heavy duty bumper with a hitch mounted in it and i was wondering if i had it welded would it be safe? Or would it be better just to buy a class 5 hitch?

The trailer hitch option we have that I recommend for a 1979 Chevrolet K2500 is the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver part # BWHDRH25198. The B&W hitch is top of the line and has the highest towing capacity we offer at 16,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 1,600 lbs tongue weight. The best part of all is that it features a no drill installation. This trailer hitch will do an excellent job of helping you safely and securely tow your toy hauler.
In regards to towing with the rear bumper, welded or not this is a very bad idea. The manufacturer of the bumper would be the only party that would be able to give a no/yes answer but i'd be shocked if they said you could. Furthermore, you need to have the trailer level or else you will get a ton of sway and that's not usually possible when towing from the bumper.
