Will Holes Need To Be Drilled To Secure Bulldog Gooseneck Inner Tube On Trailer with Set Screws

Question:

I have a 32 foot cattle stock trailer and I am looking to lower the nose height of my trailer. I have the older style bulldog hitch with the latch. can I just purchase the inner tube for my trailer? Also my outer tube on my trailer has 2 locking screws and no hole for a pin. Will I have to drill a hole of will it be ok with just the 2 locking screws

Generally speaking, you can replace just the inner tube portion of a gooseneck coupler without issue. For this, the Bulldog BX1 Gooseneck Coupler Inner Tube part # BD1289050300 is what I recommend so long as the inner diameter on the outer tube of your gooseneck coupler is 4". That said, you will need to drill a hole in your outer tube coupler so you can insert the locking pin though this and the inner tube. The set screws I believe you are referencing are usually just to help snug up the inner tube inside the outer tube so there isn't any play.

I read in one of the reviews that it wasnt necessary to drill a hole for the pin. I just want to double check about this. Ive already ordered the inner tube last night and would like to install once it arrives

You would need to drill a hole to secure the new inner tube if your outer tube doesn't already have one that lines up. This is required for proper attachment.
