Best Option for Light 5th Wheel Hitch for 2014 Ram 2500 Short Bed With Factory Prep Package

Question:

I just bought a 2014 ram 2500, crew cab, 6.5 foot box, have factory prep package, looking for a fifth wheel hitch, That I can remove myself, a light weight one or one that disassembles easily, the trailer towing will weigh at the most 15k, Or should I consider changing to a gooseneck style, any advice would be helpful, truck is tradesman package with the trailer wiring already done, 4 wheel drive

Since fifth wheel hitches are very heavy by design, there is one option that is by far the best for your 2014 Ram 2500 short bed with the factory puck system to give you a way to tow your 5th wheel trailer and easily remove the hitch:

- Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter # AM3200
- Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # RP30154

This hitch system only weighs 40 lbs so you will be able to remove it by yourself, and the rail adapter - which is needed because the Andersen doesn't fit OEM puck systems - weighs 80 lbs, which may take a bit more "oomph" to carry but is needed to mount the Andersen.

This is easily the best option because standard 5th wheel hitches are very, very heavy, and even more so for sliding hitches, even ones that can be taken apart. The Andersen does have a 9" offset which is why it can be used on a short bed truck, you just need to be sure your fifth wheel trailer does NOT have a rotating pin box, like a Reese Sidewinder or Reese Revolution as the Andersen is not compatible with those.

I have added links to video reviews and the instructions for you to check out of both the Andersen Ultimate # AM3200 and Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter # RP30154.
