Adjusting the power Output to Optimum on a Valley Journey Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

Is there a chart so that I can just set my valley brake control for the weight I need it for. IM pulling a 5th wheel that weights around 15,000lbs with my TV 2002 ford f 250 7.3 super crew cab.

There are a lot of factors to consider when setting the power output level of any brake controller so a all inclusive chart is not available. However, there is a typical method to get the brake controller set to the proper level. What you will do is go to a long flat stretch of paved road like an empty parking.

Start by setting the brake controller to the medium setting. Staring towing at about 20 miles per hour and apply the manual override on full. If the trailer brakes lock up, adjust the power down. if they do not lock up adjust the power higher.

Make another run until you get the brakes to the point just below lock up. This will be the optimal setting. If you always tow the same trailer and the weight is generally the same all the time then you should not have to make any changes for awhile.
