Fifth Wheel Rails For 2005 Ram Pickup Short Bed Using Husky 5th Wheel Hitch

Question:

I’m looking at putting a rail kit in my truck 2005 dodge 3500 short bed 4x4 and was wondering what kit would work best. I heard Curt, Husky, Reese hitches are compatible and my brother has a Husky fifth wheel hitch, but my question is what route should I take for rails. I will be using his fifth wheel and I’ll be purchasing a gooseneck plate compatible with the rails

I recommend to use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50140-58 in the bed of the 2005 Dodge Ram pickup short bed.

The custom brackets are the most important factor because they do not require drilling into the frame. Otherwise, the brand doesn't matter as much as long as the rails are industry standard fifth wheel rails (these rails are) and your brother's Husky hitch fits industry standard fifth wheel rails. Most Husky Silver Series fifth wheel hitches fit industry standard above bed rails but it is a good idea to check with your brother first to confirm what he has. The Reese kit will work well for you, I have attached an installation video for your reference. I have attached a diagram of what industry standard rails measure.

For the Gooseneck plate, i recommend Curt 25K Gooseneck Plate for Fifth Wheel Rails item # 16055 which fits the industry standard rails and gives you an offset ball for cab clearance with the short bed truck while making sharper turns.
