Trailer hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

We have a 2009 Hyundai Sante Fe that has a plastic spoiler across the top of the back hatch back door. You can not put a strap under the spoiler it has to go over the spoiler and then clip to top of door. We are concerned about bending, denting or breaking off the spoiler when we ratchet down the bike rack. We would have two adult bikes and one child BMX bike. Need suggestions on best rack that would hold weight and not bend or damage spoiler. Which bike rack would you recommend.

Because of the spoiler on your 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, the only 3-bike trunk mount bike rack I recommend is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2-3. This rack has an additional upper arm piece that moves the top straps up and over that spoiler so no weight is put on it (since the spoiler is not meant to support weight). I have included a link to a video that shows how it works.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
