Anti-Theft Lock Recommendations for Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer # Y08129

Question:

What size are the bolts that are placed in the coupler to connect the tongue with the spine. For security purposes, I would like to replace the bolt with something like a receiver lock but the parts list only shows the bolt as “H1” which seems more like a part number than a bolt size. Conversely, if you could recommend a lock that has a pin that is small enough that it will fit in the cotter pin hole as a replacement for the cotter pin, that would probably be ideal since I could keep the bolt that was designed for the trailer.

I can definitely help come up with a way to make the Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer # Y08129 as theft resistant as possible but I can't safely recommend you replace the hardware that secures the coupler or hinge to the trailer tongue with hitch locks of any kind. You have to use the included hardware otherwise the warranty of the trailer would be voided and you'd be potentially unsafe to yourself and other motorists.

So for the latch of the coupler you could use a trigger latch lock # BD580403 and you'd have the coupler locked to your hitch ball. Another way to lock the trailer to your trailer hitch would be to run a cable lock like part # FCLK150100 around the main crossmembers of the trailer back through the safety chain loops of your trailer hitch.

You also could use a wheel lock like the etrailer part # 288-02020 which would prevent the wheel from turning.
