Recommended 2 Bike Rack for Heavy Surly Big Dummy And Cruiser Style E Bike
Question:
I know to remove batteries before hauling, but these e-bikes are still going to weigh 65 and 45 pounds respectively. One is a Surly Big Dummy cargo bike that should work fine for the length you offer. The other is a more common cruiser style bike. Both have nearly 2inch tires. We would like this platform style for obvious reasons. I am worried that it may not work with two different top bar heights. It will be mounted on a 2018 Ford Escape.

I wouldn't recommend using the # S64650-EXT bike racks for the bikes you describe, as their combined weight will overload the bike rack by 30 lbs which could result in the rack failing during transport which would not be good.
I'd recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE, part # HLY84FR. This rack can accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 60 inches, from what I read your Surly Big Dummy can go up to 59 inches. The rack will comfortably carry bikes weighing up to 80 lbs apiece, with tires up to 5 inches wide. It will handle the weight, the wheelbase and the tire width of your bikes very easily. It's one of the few bike racks we offer that can accommodate all three of those parameters but is the most economical option.
Hollywood Racks makes an outstanding product with a limited lifetime warranty and their Customer Service is one of the best in their industry, which is why we recommend them frequently. If you click the provided link, you can see the rack being demonstrated on a 2018 Ford Escape.
