Does Input Current Have to be 40 Amps for Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger

Question:

Does the input current always have to be 40A? What happens if the vehicle altenator doe not have the capacity to suply 40A to this unit? I know there is a smaller size redarc but will be upgrading vehicle in the next year or so and do not want to upgrade in future.

The input current does not have to be 40 amps for the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D. In fact, the 40 amps is the maximum input current as opposed to the minimum. To install this charger you will also need the Fuse Kit # 331-FK60.

As you mentioned, there is a smaller capacity charger with a maximum input current of 25 amps, the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D. The correct fuse kit for this charger is Fuse Kit # 331-FK40.

I have added links to video reviews, installs and instruction manuals for you to check out as well.
