Could 2017 Ram 2500 handle 1,100 lb of Tongue Weight
Question:
I am looking at a bumper pull travel trailer with a tongue weight of 1150 and 37.5foot long, pulling with a RAM 2500 short bed Cummins max payload of 1913. Cargo and passengers will put as at just about 15lbs under max payload. Knowing things ALWAYS weight more than we think, I feel once we had a hitch and such, well likely be 100-200lbs OVER our payload. Will a weight distribution system help with that or are we going to have to be super vigilant on our weights? Also, does adding weight to the front of the travel trailer add to the tongue weight? Thanks!

Payload isn't the same thing as tongue weight capacity. Payload is weight the vehicle can carry inside the cab and truck bed whereas tongue weight is the vertical weight capacity pressing down on the trailer hitch. 1,150 lbs of trailer tongue weight wouldn't be an issue at all for a 2017 Ram 2500 so you'd be fine. A weight distribution system with sway control would be a great option though as it will allow you a safer and more comfortable towing experience.
For your tongue weight the Strait Line part # RP66130 would be your best solution. It is the correct weight rating and has best sway control. You'd also need a shank for it to fit a 2-1/2 inch hitch with the part # EQ90-02-4900 and a hitch ball # 19286 and you'd be set.
