Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 6,500 lb Trailer with 8 inch Tall Frame Channels

Question:

The WD unit you recommended does not appear to be surge brake compatible

Since your frame channels are taller than 6 inches you'd need to use a weight distribution system like the Reese # RP66542 that has frame clamps that attach to the top of the frame and does not need to attach around the entire frame channel. This also won't damage the paint of your trailer frame and has a tongue weight range that would work well with a trailer that weighs between 6,000 and 6,500 lbs.

Sorry about that! Didn't know you had surge brakes. You can use the # RP66542 with surge brakes but they would have diminished performance. Best solution would then be the Equal-i-zer part # EQ37100ET which you would have to weld the frame brackets to the side of your trailer frame but it would give you the best WD around!
