Determining Correct Ball Mount for 2009 Range Rover Sport with OEM Receiver

Question:

1. What is the appropriate height of the tow bar/hitch ball that slides into the standard range rover OEM receiver? It appears that the bar needs to be elevated ~ 2-4inch secondary to the lower position of the hitch reciever on the truck? 2. Is the length of the bar longer than a standard bar? Is it necessary to have a longer bar with 2 or more holes available for longer adjustment? 3. Do the 4inch adjustable hitch/ball bars adjust up by 4 inches also or only down?

I do not have any information regarding the height of the OEM receiver on a 2009 Range Rover Sport.

You will want to choose a ball mount that would place the trailer ball at the appropriate level so that your trailer is towed level, or within 1-1/2 inches plus or minus either way. The average trailer coupler height is around 17 inches, but you will need to measure using the procedures outlined in our Ball Mount FAQ article to be sure. If you were planning on towing more than one trailer, and adjustable ball mount (see helpful link) might be the answer for you. The overwhelming majority of the adjustable ball mounts we offer can indeed be used in either the rise or the drop orientation. Any exceptions will be mentioned in the product description.

Long, extra long and super extra long ball mounts are available, I will also link you to those. An extended length ball mount really is not necessary unless you have clearance problems at the rear of the vehicle, like a very large spare tire mounted to the rear of the vehicle or if you plan on towing with a pickup truck while the tailgate is open.

Typically, ball mounts do not have adjustment holes that allow the ball to move horizontally, closer or further to the bumper.
