How Does The Obstruction Retraction Feature Of Kwikee Steps Work

Question:

I believe this statement in the features section is incorrect. Features: Replaces the motor .... Include ..... Fits step series ..... Motor provides ....... Automatic shut-down feature retracts steps if they strike an obstacle during extension This motor assembly does not have any capacity to reverse itself. That function would be provided by the control module BUT pet the Kwikee #888 Electric Step Owners manual 142279 page 4, paragraph 2 it states that the motor shuts down when it senses an increase in motor drive current. It says nothing about retracting the steps if they hit an object.

According to owner's manual of the Kwikee Step 24 and 25 series like part # LC375821 When the motor assembly senses an obstruction such as a curb the motor draws a larger amount of current. The control unit senses the larger current draw and shuts off the power to the motor which retracts the steps. The motor part # LC369529 does have a part of the obstruction detection of the steps.
