As you might notice, Yakima and Thule disagree on the advisability of carrying three bikes on the hatchback model of the SX4, which is not uncommon. In a situation like that, I typically advise people go the safe route and stick to using a rack with a 2 bike capacity.

Of the racks listed, I can highly recommend the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV. Trunk mounted bike racks typically use 6 straps to hold the rack in place. Each time the rack is installed, the straps need to be adjusted which is a time consuming process. The OutWay uses only 2 rubber coated straps that allows the rack to be installed and removed in seconds. The OutWay is our best selling rack, hands down.

If your SX4 is equipped with a rear wiper, DO NOT use it while the rack is in place.

For women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
