Will the Thule OutWay 3 Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2012 Ford Edge

Question:

Would this work with our Ford Edge 2012 basic model-no extras ? Also, we have a male and female 24 inch mountain bike, do we need an adapter bar for each one? or just the female version? Can the bike rack work without the adapter bar for these bikes bec it would be an additional $70 so I am hoping I can go without. What size adapter bar should we get if the bikes do need them?

The Thule OutWay 3, # TH56BV, will fit the 2012 Ford Edge. An adapter bar is recommended for any bike that does not have a top frame tube that goes straight across. This is so the bike can be carried level because if they were carried at an angle, one end of the bike would be closer to the ground giving you poor ground clearance. It also throws off the center of gravity on the rack.

There are different adapter bars you could use all of which do the same thing. The Thule model is # TH982XT. I have linked a video that shows how it works.
