Availability of a 4 Bike Trunk Mount Bike Rack for a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I have a leased 2011 Jeep Grand cherokee. It does not have a trailer hitch and since it is leased I am not sure I can mount one. It does have a real spoiler however. Does this model TH78VR come with a 4 bike system? Or is there another model to look at?

First, there are some companies that make a 4 bike trunk mount rack but we do not carry them. Four bikes on a trunk mount bike rack will put a lot of stress on the vehicle and I do not recommend it.

The best way to carry 4 bikes is with a trailer hitch. You will have to consult your lease agreement, or the dealer where you leased the vehicle, to determine if a hitch can be put on and if there are restrictions on the type of hitch or who can install it.

The same is going to go with any semi-permanent or permanent installation such as a roof rack. I would go with a trunk mount rack like # TH78VR that you referenced, and then carry the 4th bike in the cargo area if at all possible. This will keep you good with the lease and you will still be able to carry 3 bikes. I have included a link to the installation details for the bike rack.

If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using the bike adapter bar # TH982XT for greater ground clearance and to carry the bikes more level. I have included a link to a video that shows how the adapter works.
