Do Top Nuts Need To Be Removed When Installing Curt Front Hitch # C31015 on 2018 Ram 2500

Question:

Been reading reviews and QandA on the site. Woody 12/9/182017 Ram Power Wagon said he did not loosen the top 2 bolts and everything went fine. The videos and written instructions says to loosen both top and bottom bolts. I have a 2018 Tradesman 4WD 2500. Would like your opinion about the top 2 bolts or if you ran across a similar question. I would love to not loosen them if I didnt have too as they hard a little harder to get to. Thanks for great product and support.

The installation instructions for the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch # C31015 does state to remove/loosen up both the top and bottom nuts on each side of the truck. The bottom nuts definitely needs to be removed as they will be replaced by the included hardware once the hitch is in place, however the removal of the top nut is really only to release some of the tension on the bumper that allows you to more easily slide the bottom bolt where it needs to be for the hitch brackets.

If you're able to mount the hitch properly without removing the top nuts like Woody then it's not a necessary step. If those top nuts are difficult to reach on your Ram you can definitely try to skip that step to see if you can get by with keeping those top nuts tightened down.

I have included the full install video below that you can check out as well.
