The easiest way to accomplish the installation of a trailer connector on your 1983 Ford Ranger would be to access the wires leading to the taillights and use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to determine which wire controls which function. The trailer connector will have 4 leads: White would ground to the truck frame, yellow which would tap into the left turn circuit, green which would tap into the right turn circuit, and brown which would tap into the running light circuit.
