Is 1,200 lb Tongue Weight Equal-i-zer Too Heavy Rated for Trailer with 596 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Along with the main question: Whats the best device to weigh my tongue weight with, and what sort of torque wrench would I need to assemble/disassemble this? If it is installed incorrectly too many washers, etc, then I would probably want to try to correct it myself to get it just right. Thanks!

You have way too much weight distribution for the tongue weight of your towing setup. What you typically experience when using a WD system that is rated too high is a really rough ride quality. Since the bars are so rigid I could see there possibly being an issue with the trailer getting bent if you went over severe enough bumps but that's not something we've seen or experienced here.

We do have a pretty easy solution for you as you can replace the spring bars and head of your current system with a lower rated set which will work much better. We have the springs bars # EQ90-02-1099 (sold individually) which have a tongue weight between 600 and 1,000 lbs which would be ideal for your setup. The matching head you'd need is the part # EQ90-02-1000. Since the different bar weight ranges have different dimensions you have to change heads when you change bars too.

We have tongue weight scales like the part # e99044 that you'd set the jack of your trailer onto to give you an accurate weight or you could use the BetterWeigh part # C51701 which plugs into your OBDII port and uses the vehicle's suspension and computer to let you know the weight of the trailer. We have torque wrenches like the Powerbuilt Dual Drive part # ALL944001 which has a 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch drive so it can work with basically anything you'd ever need to use a torque wrench with.
