Brake Controlloer Installation For VW Atlas Without Tow Package
Question:
I have a VW Atlas 2018 and it does not have the tow package on. I have everything that I need to install the tow and the brake controller wiring. I am not sure how to get access to the brake signal that I have to feed into the brake controller Draw-Tite 5535. Is that available under the dash somewhere? Any guidance?

Helpful Expert Reply:
On your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas the wiring panel should be located under the left kick panel on the floor. Both the panels on the floor need to be moved to the side to access the wiring. From there you may want to run the wiring behind the larger kick panel and drape it over the top so you can then make the wiring connections and mount your Brake EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR under the dash.
On the brake controller, the black wire is for 12V power, the blue wire is for brake output to the 7-Way, the red wire is for the cold side of your brake light switch, and the white wire is for ground. If the wires you found on the Atlas are not labeled, you will want to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to ensure you make the right connections.
